At the beginning of business engagement between Luka Koper and Actual I.T. it was initially determined that the existing sales and operational support operating on legacy mainframe computers since 1990, was no longer suitable for supporting the entire business processes and its global integration within their business environment.
Due to Luka Koper's specific activities and its organizational structure, the decision was accepted to implement a new specific information system to transparently optimize the business processes and serve as a platform when introducing new information sub-systems and solutions.
During the IT modernization initial preparation phase, there was a separation of certain functionalities distinguished between the core information system for sales and operations (TinO), and the functionalities covered by standard solutions with existing information sub-systems (information system for container loading – COSMOS, industrial weighting systems,...).
The following sub-systems were introduced during the IS implementation:
- the entry point offering external partners to use various technologies for information exchange with Luka Koper's information system,
- data hub between various systems in Luka Koper and external partners responsible for data transformation and direction,
- web solution for subscribers enabling them placing orders and record review of completed solutions (Lunaris),
- information system TinO offering the following solutions:
- service ordering,
- record keeping,
- warehouse record keeping (port, customs, excise),
- invoicing and billing,
- contracts,
- najavo ladij,
- ship announcements,
- ordering of labour and railroad wagons,
- process to keep track of exchanging wagons with Slovenian railway,
- posting and calculation of work orders,
- handling and processing of messages from other sub-systems and subscribers
- data warehouse composition and transfer of data into ERP SAP system
Cooperation between Luka Koper and Actual I.T.
The entire outsourcing of IT in Luka Koper is managed by Actual I.T. since 2004. The IT personnel of Luka Koper and its obligations were carried over to Actual I.T. Since then, the entire infrastructure such as work stations and server environment was modernized. The highest security and quality standards were introduced for uninterrupted operation.
Application solutions were introduced:
- worldly recognized Belgian information system solution for container terminal operation Cosmos was introduced,
- new functional areas and functionalities in business information system SAP,
- information solutions improvement for loading/unloading of the car freight,
- entire modernization and introduction of new functionalities for supporting bar code systems,
- remodelling of the document management system.
Besides all the items listed above, there were other value-added innovations introduced helping Luka Koper to maintain the cutting edge in the Slovenian specific and unique field of operation in the area of logistics where an effective information system is essential.
Today, the information system of Luka Koper consists of multiple sub-systems:
- information system TinO – main information system covering sales and operation,
- information system SAP – for finance (FI), accounting, HR, material management (MM) and protection of health at work (VZD),
- Cosmos information system for container terminal,
- information system for loading/unloading of the car freight,
- handling the sub-systems by using bar codes:
- solutions for handling home appliances (Gorenje),
- solutions for handling paper,
- solutions for handling fruit,
- information system for access supervision and time management,
- documentation management information system,
- Microstrategy information system for business reporting,
- other specialized applications for various areas.
